Siding for additions and new homes
An addition has to look as if it was always there, and a new house needs its siding sequenced with windows, roofing and trim. A siding contractor can price either from the plans.

Matching an addition to the house
The hard part is the seam between old and new. If the existing siding is still made, the contractor can match profile and color; if it isn't, the usual answers are a deliberate change (shingles above, clapboard below), moving original siding from a hidden wall, or re-siding the whole house so everything matches.

Sequencing on a new build
Siding goes on after the sheathing, wrap, windows and doors, and usually after the roof. Trim details at corners, eaves and openings are easier to get right when they are drawn on the plans. Building permits for additions and new houses are handled with the town or village building department, usually by the builder or general contractor.
